Admissions Online

Welcome to The Knox School of Santa Barbara and thank you for your interest.

Request More Information

Should you desire more information than is available on our website or in our brochure, if you would like to talk in person with the Director, please Request More Information and our Admissions Office will contact you directly. We invite you to schedule a time to see the campus and the classes in action, and to meet with the Director to discuss your child’s needs.

How to Apply

The online application contains all the information needed to begin this journey.  We have provided an Application Checklist below to aid you in the process.  Detailed here are the steps to take in considering application to The Knox School.

Submit the Online Application and supporting documents (Please see Application Checklist) along with the non-refundable fee of $125.  We encourage families to apply online as it simplifies submission and provides parents a tool for tracking the status of the admission process after their application has been submitted.  If you prefer to fill out a hard copy, please let us know by calling the office at (805) 222-0107 and we’d are happy to mail you an application packet.

Create an Online Application

To being the Online Application process, please Create an Account.

Then log in to your account and Create A New Student Application for your child.  You will then have the flexibility to log in and out of your account and access your open application.

After submitting the application, you will be able to track the status of your application, print out the completed application, monitor when the school receives supplemental documents, and the like.

Supplemental Material

Some documents are required, such as teacher recommendations, whereas other material is optional and helps us evaluate your child’s unique talents and needs.  This optional material may include portfolios of your child’s work, videos of performances, work samples, and the like. In this application process, you will be alerted as to whether a document is required for application or optional depending on the grade level your child will be entering.

Please be aware that submitted materials cannot be returned to you.

Cognitive Assessment

A cognitive assessment (IQ testing) from a licensed psychologist is required for admission into Grades 1-8, and is encouraged but not required for application to Kindergarten.  A partial list of local providers is located on the “Testing Referral List” on the Admissions tab on our website.   Giftedness is assessed by The Knox School through a multi-faceted, holistic framework, of which one component is intellectual ability measured through intelligence testing. We individually and sensitively consider admissions within an IQ range of 120 and above.

Interviews and Visit Day

Upon receipt of a completed application and the application fee (via e-check here or by mail), we will contact you to schedule the student visit day.

Deadlines

Please see our website for application deadlines.  Applications received after the Spring deadline will be processed on a space-available basis. Applications for in-year transfers are accepted at any time if space is available.

Wait List

The Knox School continues to accept and review applications after the Spring application deadline on a space-available basis. If a class is full at the time of acceptance, the applicant will be placed into the class waiting pool. If an opening occurs, the admissions committee re-evaluates students on our waiting list who have met the admission qualifications. Invitations are offered on the basis of comparative readiness for success in our program rather than on the length of time a candidate has remained in the wait pool.

Admission Decisions

Decisions regarding acceptance are at the sole discretion of the Admissions Committee of the Knox School of Santa Barbara. Once an admissions decision is reached, you will receive a decision letter and, if applicable, an enrollment contract or waitlist information will be mailed to you.

If the admission committee is unable to extend an offer of admission to your child, the admission office will make every effort to identify the skills the applicant needs to acquire to be considered for placement in future years.

Please call the school at (805) 222-0107 if you have any questions regarding the application process.  We strive to achieve a good match between the prospective student, the family, and our school.

The Knox School of Santa Barbara does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
